Este post dice mucho de este país incríble.
Los noruegos son muy bueno para recopilar datos DE TODO y llevar estadísticas; creo que hasta deben saber la emisiones de carbono por los pedos de cada sector de la sociedad. Pero bueno, ésta que explico a continuación es mucho más importante y ya deben tener expertos desarrollando algo para mejorar la situación... dice el artículo que desde 1926 se han muerto en el trabajo: 27 policías! 27!! en 84 años! o sea que muere 1 cada 3 años! (hice bien la cuenta?) De esos, 6 murieron durante la guerra, y un boludo de la montada que se murió durante el entierro del rey en 1991 de las heridas que sufrió al caerse del caballo durante el desfile. El resto murio en servicio y eso refleja, como dice el artículo, que "la realidad es que los policías deben impedir a gente peligrosa para evitar que otros se lesionen, esto significa que los policías tienen que ir a situaciones de peligro, aun a riesgo de sus vidas" etc etc... bueno, sí mencionan que la tasa de moratlidad ésta es baja comparada con otros países, pero los numeros me dejaron atónita! Esto en Argentina no pasa!

Anoche vimos a la orquesta de Kaada en la esquina de casa, en Hulen, qué lindo concierto! Quedé más que encantada con la música, la "puesta" que pudieron poner en ese escenario tan chiquito, todos los instrumentos que se usaron, (guau! a ver si me acuerdo algunos? tuba, oboe, flauta traversa, contrabajo, violines, mandolina, banjo, guitarra, bateria, bong, marimba, xilofon, teclados varios, acordeon, algunos jueguetes, y mas cositas que ni se que nombre tendran). Esta mañana Eva me dio la alegría que estaba esperando... solo me mando un link por el msn, sin decir ni hola, como me gusta, como baldazo de agua fría! Ay! qué linda noticia! Estamos muy vagos por aca. Depués de aquel período trágico sin conexión a la internés desde casa, como que se me cortó la inspiracao (me falta la patita de la C)... es que ahora tengo teclado noruego, asique todavía no me aprendo los short-cuts, y Ohio! que hasta estoy usando acentos, cosa que nunca... (que bestia, huh?). Una de mis propuestas para el 2009 (¿se puede seguir hablando de eso en marzo?) es empezar a usar los acentos. Veremos como me va. (Ese "como", ¿lleva acento?) (Y ese, ¿"ese"...? ay! ya la estoy cagando.... voy a tratar de no usar esos pronombres (son pronombres?) hasta que me los aprenda mejor. Bueno, me dejo de pelotudeces y termino con la foti que tenía ganas de subir.

No son muy fan de los bootlegs, pero vale la pena conmemorar mi primera vez, huh...?

Mi primera vez en ver Fantômas ao vivo! u-au! si estas aca seguramentee ya sabes que fue hace poco en UK... hay varios posts anteriores del dichoso festival organizado por ATP donde tocaron todo el The Director's Cut. Acabo de bajar el bootleg y ni siquiera lo termine de escuchar, de movida ya me encanto que al comienzo de "The Night of the Hunter" se escucha "Beware of false prophets..." y Dunn más que impersonar al predicador parecia un muñeco del tren fantasma, ponia boca de chirolita y todo, muy cómico.

Va estar oscuro a esas horas por bastante tiempo más... pero! hoy el día duro 1 minuto más que ayer y pasado mañana se alargara otro minuto, y luego más y más y si el universo sigue en orden, para el día de reyes el sol no se pondrá hasta pasadas las 3:30, (pasadas por 2 minutos pero hay que destacar lo positivo) Sí, gordo, qué claridad! practicamente se avecina el verano!

From just dreaming about old MrBungle times, I came to enjoy a lot of Dunn's material this year. He released one of my favorites CDs, Four Films (checkie). What a fine piece! Very varied yet totally coherent, it takes you through different emotional landscapes, from nostalgia in "isabelle" or "drive", to euphoria ("fire disco"), to suspense ("late night scene") and of course some noise also, among other states and styles. No need to see the films to enjoy the music, but of course now I am curious about them. I have more than 20 favorites songs among the 26 that compose this album. Most instruments executed by Trevor himself in more than half of the tunes, but a few collaborations like the beautiful harp of Shelley Burgon or the energetic percussion of crazy Wollesen. A very pleasant surprise, this album was not quite what I expected from Dunn. Nevertheless, I did like it from the very beginning and chose to play it more and more often in time.

Also I was lucky to see him several times in different line-ups. First time was presenting The Dreamers -one of the most beautiful and accessible of Zorn's creations (vids here)- and second was with Andrew D'Angelo Trio, a gratis small gig at the art museum's cafe, pretty incredible, huh? so it was the music, moments of jazz and some rock, and both usual and experimental approaches.
Then, the first week of December it was the ATP, and so I had the chance to see the second presentation of MadLove ever.

That was almost conventional hard rock, not catchy but rhythmic, with a little distortion. Trevor himself said he was trying to do smart-rock, like The Pretenders and described it as heavy but carefully constructed, melodic motion, rich harmonies and not too predictable. I put up two short videos ( 1 and 2) and someone has a better one here.
That very same night after MadLove, he joined Porn going crazy and distoring his bass (I wrote a little about that show here) and following days of the festival there was Fantômas! what can I say about Fantômas that has not yet been said? nothing, right! so, as these posts are suppose to be about ATP, I will link you here a funny wired video. Its from the second night at the festival, when he came on stage I thought he was acting and joking, but so he told a joke! and it seems he was the drunkest person on stage that I have seen in a long time. We could hear Buzzo: "wake up, motherfucker!" the concert went on with no more problems, so its a funny anecdote of a great, great night... and those were a few more words about the incredible festival and what a great musical year 2008 has been.

BUTLINS: not the town of Edward Scissorhands, but the strangest characters can be seen

People from all over the world (Australia, Canada, USA, Sweden, Italy, Germany, Holland, etc etc) and of course everybody is very happy about being there!! At any moment you could find yourself in a nice chat with random people, from the audience or even artists... as we were all together "en la misma onda" :p
King Buzzo comes say hello to your crazy friend?! (fyi, thats Sanne, AKA: Shaunnne!) how fucking surreal can this be? that's just an example, Maybe Gibby Haynes (Butthole Surfers) asks for fire and shares a cigarette with you at the door, you walk home and see all Taraf de Haidouks being taken in this train to their rooms (muy gracioso todos apiñados ahi con sus instrumentos, falta la Pantera Rosa y es como esos que salen de la puerta del zoologico). Late at night Dale Crover waits for his beers next to you at the bar or the guys from Zu are going crazy with the Sega Rally videogame, it's plain to see Battaglia beating the ass of Luca while your partner covers you in Time Crisis III. You sneak into Trevor Dunn's soundcheck for MadLove and it's OK, he might even come down from stage to say "hi" and chat a minute, in the evening you enjoy a nutritive Whopper and Patton passes by, hurrying up as he is soon due on stage. All in all, it' just fun to be around, what a cool festival. The biggest hit is when you are taking pictures and look out the camera only to realize that the one that smells so good is THE MAN HIMSELF, standing right next to you!

Anecdotas ATP (II) - Ghostigital

a esta gente la conoci hace poco, cuando hacía los deberes para el ATP e iba escuchando las bandas a medida que las anunciaban. queria publicar en Casa Abierta (y lo hare pronto) el CD que consegui, más que nada para recavar opiniones... porque es que me... sorprendieron mucho! apenas puse play pense que Borat le habia raptado un trompetista de los que adopta Ema Redzepova y se habia puesta a hacer electronoise-rap... (ja! les gusto el nuevo genero?)
la cosa es que mientras escuchaba, iba leyendo su web, las fotos mostraban unos señores punchi-punchi, muy mal vestidos y yo estaba "totally confused", pero me empezo a entrar... en seguida estaba "feeling the loooove" y quise ser un cod, y swiiiim...
el acento super duro, la voz que pareciera se apreto un huevo, la manera de rapear "medio mal", las letras ridiculas, la combinacion de electronico con trompetas, las bases (pupum pupum tz tz tz)(cómo describo música, eh? nah... si tengo un don! juas)

Curver atras, Einar (de Sugarcubes) arengando y su hijo Kaktus (14 años)

enigüeis... la anecdota iba a su presentacion en el ATP, una de las ultimas del ultimo dia del festival que nos agarro a todos con los cuerpos muy cansados y sin embargo saltabamos poseidos por el ritmo y nos matabamos de risa por el despliegue en el escenario, Einar mirando a la gente, agitando, subiendose por los parlantes, arengando todo lo que podia. y nosotros: feeling the loooooove! broche de oro a un festival increible.

no se que se me dio por empezar a postear con este loco... tiene mucha onda, eso si. lo vimos el primer dia de Nightmare Before Christmas, a la noche tarde.

no se cual es el lineup normal de Porn (si es que hay uno) pero esa noche estuvieron en bateria Dale Crover y Coady Willis; Dunn y Thurston Moore distorsionando y divagando con los bajos a full, Dunn (que en un momento se cayo al suelo) termino tirandole moneditas a las cuerdas del bajo que dejo en el piso, y Moore paro el suyo contra el ampli y le pisaba la parte de atras. al costado del escenario estaba el guitarra de Mastodon que se salia de la vaina, asique el Moss, le paso su guitarra un ratito y mientras se tomo una birra. tocaron de principio a fin sin parar, sin parar!! aprox 1 horita. demasiado delirio para mi gusto, pero destaco los baterias, impresionantes. Crover = "el mejor baterista del Rock, period"

bueno, eso... a unos les gusto mas que a otros, pero estoy segura de que TODOS (bueno, todos los bolus que nos olvidamos los tapones) perdimos un poco de audicion esa noche... jeje

ah! y vale contar que le estuvo conectando, o bueno, ayudando a conectar todos los aparatejos a Patton, en los 3 recitales de Fantômas

wooww.....! how much energy! only few times I witnessed things like this! super-tidy, of course, but that was the only thing reminding you were in Norway... because so much passion made you believe you were not in Bergen. you are in the middle of an energy-ball that sings along, endlessly, with a fervour that is almost unbelievable for such latitudes, every single song. you breathe the heat of a syncronized army euphoric souls and its seems there is no torrential rain outside expressing the autumm. inside is a surreal experience.

guauuuu....! cuánta energía!! pocas veces vi un público así! ordenadísimo, eso si! y esa era la unica característica noruega... pero tanta pasión te hace creer que no estas en Bergen. estas en medio de una bola de enrgia que corea, interminablemente, con un fervor casi increíble para éstas latitudes todas las canciones. respiras el calor de un ejercito sincronizadísimo de almas eufóricas y parece inexistente el afuera, te olvidas del otoño manifestandose en lluvia torrencial, adentro es una experiencia surreal.

Solo para tener la excusa de contar ciertas anecdotas, traigo un poco de musica que tal vez ningun asiduo de la casa se baje. De todas maneras tambien hay que reconocer que en muchos lugares, el viking o death o que-se-yo-diabolico metal es lo que primero se asocia con la musica de estas latitudes. Asi es que vamos brevemente a la historia en cuestion que une los discos que se ofrecen.

El primer personaje que presento, es Vikernes, con esa cara de angelito, esta preso por mucho tiempo. Estaba medio chapita de niño, y su primera banda la formo con una chico que le apunto a la cabeza con un revolver mágnum 375 cargado una noche de año nuevo cuando tenian 14 años. El incidente no paso a mayores, y formaron su primera banda. Vikernes es fanatico de Tolkien, dice hablar el idioma de tierra media, y porsupu que esta del lado de Sauron. Adora a los dioses nordicos, pero los cristianos noruegos dicen que adora a Satan. Ironicamente su nombre de pila era Kristian, y se lo cambio legalmente a Varg. A principios de los 90 quemo varias iglesias al parecer a modo de venganza vikinga.

Antes de ir preso, Vikernes, colaboro con la banda Mayhem. Dead era el cantante y logro hacer notorios los recitales de Mayhem cortándose con cuchillos de caza y vidrios rotos, y llevando una jarra con un cuervo muerto, que olia durante el recital para poder “cantar con el olor fetido a muerte metido en su nariz”. Se ve que tenia asuntos difíciles de lidiar con, y termino haciendole honor a su sobrenombre, se corto las venas y se disparo a la cabeza. El cuerpo lo encontro Euronymus, con una nota que pedia perdon por la sangre y por disparar adentro (que considerado!). Antes de llamar a la policia, Eurnonymus saco algunas fotos y aprovecho para cocinar y comer pedazos del cerebro que se habia desparramado por ahí y se hizo un collar con fragmentos del craneo (digno de una tardes de bricolage en utilisima, se dice que le hermana Bernarda le pidio la receta para hacer sesos). Una de las fotos del cadáver de Dead se utilizo para el cover de un bootleg y respecto del collar hay una versión que dice que se lo robaron y otra que se lo regalo a unos musicos que consideraba dignos de tenerlo.
De Mayhem encontre De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas

Para rematar las anecdotas, este Euronymus y Vikernes se empezaron a llevar mal y dejaron de relacionarse por completo. Tenian gente en comun y que chusma, que chisme, llega a oidos de Varg que Euronymus lo queria torturar hasta matarlo, y hacer un video de los sucesos. “Ah, si? ya va a ver este…”. Varg decide agarrar el auto y manejar 8 horas hasta Oslo para enfrentarlo. Uno de Mayhem que justo se estaba quedando en la casa de Varg, aprovecha el viaje y lo acompaña. Cuando llegan a lo de Euronymus, Varg toca el timbre y sube, pero el otro se queda en la vereda fumando un pucho porque ni en el auto ni en el departamento estaba permitido fumar (satanicos pero no cancerosos). La cosa es que el Varg sube con su cuchillo a mano, y apenas el otro abre la puerta tienen un intercambio de palabras muy corto seguido por una lucha que termina en Euronymus muerto. El de abajo ni se habia terminado el cigarrillo que ya estaban rajando a Bergen de vuelta….

Se nota que estuve al pedo? me lei la autobiografía de Varg donde explica todo con lujo de detalles y trate de rescatar las partes mas divertidas. Si querian musica vikinga, Vikernes es lo mas cercano que encontre. Espero que no me pierdan el respeto ni que me exilien de la Casa

El mes de Junio viene movidito y ya se inaguro la temporada de conciertos!

Empezamos warming-up anoche en el NattJazz.
Lo primero que nos toco fue Jon Hassel, pionero y legendario según “los que saben”, un trompetista que trasciende los limites inherentes del instrumento y lo hace flexible. La loca de Björk dio un comentario (para mi, elusivo!) y dijo que su musica le parece "secretamente feliz". Yo me mori del embole, pero la musica ambient nunca fue de mis preferidas, y menos en vivo.
A punto de dormirnos nos pasamos de sala y vimos el concierto de la orquesta de jovenes. Muy divertido!! Chicos de quizas 15 años, como 20 on-stage, quilombo, cambios de ritmo como me gusta a mi, alguna cancion romantica y mucha trompeta.

Guau! Buenisisimo! Me encanto. Son un trio (bateria, saxo y guitarra), e invitaron como cuarto a Per Jørgensen, un tompetista increible que tambien canto (eso fue el highlight del gig!). El baterista gano el premio rebelacion.

Enigüeis…. El post era para inagurar una etapa nueva y super-emocionante de recitales. El proximo paso es hacia Logen.

Well, several times I complained how I am never lucky in lotteries, winning whatever or getting stuff... but coming back from our holidays we were offered 500 euros to wait until next morning to catch our connectiing flight... so we did.

We got to see Frankfurt, free dinner, free hotel with breakfast and back with more money than expected after 3 weeks enjoying cash flow for the holidays-shopping's sake...

You know what day is today...?

yes... April 1st! ...and I have never been tricked like today!!!

I feel so good now... I had my adrenaline shock, and it was big one.
Here is the story:

I am in the kitchen at work, getting a cup of tea when a girl from administration hands me some mail I had received. As soon as I glanc the letter, I see my IP adress and realized it is about downloading stuff....
ouch!

(The coleague I am chatting with had received some mails a few weeks ago from some company. They threatened about sueing her, she was downloading movies through the server of the university and it seemed that some specific file she was sharing caused her these problems etc etc... I have known about this, and we had talked about that issue long. In the end nothing happened to her, it was just a warning and she just stopped downloading stuff)

So, the thing is, I am standing there, and I see this letter in norwegian, very formal, and I see my IP address and I get nervous so I handed it to her... "Shit, girl, look at this... can you translate, plis?"

"Oh, it is a letter from the police departement" she says dry.

OMFG!!!!! I havent paid attention to the logo, but now I see... OH SHIT!
"Lets go to my office" I demand
We close the door and start studying the letter.
They explain about this company who is monitoring internet activity in several institutions and they say they noticed there was a lot of traffic in this IP which they know belongs to me. They give detail about the laws I am breaking and say I am being sued. These law infringements can cause me fines up to 10.000 dollars and up to three months of jail. I am in deep shit! I ran to administration to see the girl who had given me the letter (we are good friends) and tell her what happened, she looks at me so worried and tells me this story that have been on the news about this guy that went to jail. And! the letter was given to me opened, because it came addressed to the institute so in secretary they had to opened it to check who it was for... should i tell my boss? would i loose my job? how much will i have to pay? who do i tell this to my husband? am i going to jail??? I am not a fucking criminal!

well... they let me worry for like half an hour, bitches!!!

Now i can say it was fun, and maybe I will not be tricked again...

World Premiere - Logen Teater - 26.02.08

Thanks to the logistic skills of my friend who was determined to get the best location, we ended up as the first row of people right below Mike. There was no fence, and the stage was moreless of the height of our chests, so arms and gadgets (handbags, beers, cameras, etc) comfortably resting on stage!

You have probably seen many videos already! It was FUN! It was GOOD! All people was very excited. It was plain to see how Mike and Stian were having such a good time. Mike was smiling most of the time, and in fact he was laughing a lot. At some points they were a little disorganized, but that was also cool somehow... it was a very relax, laid back concert. Stian is amazingly fast. Wooow!!! his fingers fly on the accordion, the banjo, the guitar, and he also sang. Patton did everything, sing, scream, shout, skatting, this blabbering or whatever is called, also this "chaka chaka", exciting deep breathing, his distortion noises with the mic to the speakers; he sang in English, but also Spanish and Italian. He did Everything!! (sorry my vocabulary is exceeded by Patton's musical abilities, LOL!).
At some point Mike and Stian were trying to see what to continue with, and not coming to agreement Mike asked the audience to vote between Italian or French, and Scalinatella was performed… sweeeet! There was also an amazing "duel" guitar vs. voice and voice vs. voice. It was good and had some very funny parts. As said, they were basically playing, I mean like kids with toys!! I think most people loved "Life on mars", I personally did, as much as the whole thing, I could not pick a favorite... Stian´s theme from the 2004 album was grrreat! But so it was "Deep river blues" and the tango "Vulevo al sur" and everything in between. "Super Mario Bros" made me hate myself for never seeing MrBungle live...
I really wish they will work on recording something together, good combinations of talents, they blended nicely. I don't think I had mentioned that Mike and Stain had not met before earlier that day… That I came to know from Stian himself when talking earlier at the theater's entrance. Impressive, huh?
What else can I say? It was fucking amazing, sorry I am not better at reviewing music.

The groupie in me.... (About how I met THE MAN in Bergen)

Ufff…! I am at work, hours go so slow… I cannot focus and finally at 3:30PM I decide to get the fuck out of there. If there is any sound check today, must be around now... As soon as I put one foot inside the entrance hall of the theater I clearly identify his strong voice singing something I don't recognize… an indescribable rush through my whole body; blood is boiling and every fucking cell of my body is disturbingly at a loss, all my nerves give different signals, don't know what to do!! where do I hide? how the fuck do I do this? I go up the stairs, I had been here before so I know there is a door that connects to the "balcony" of the concert room...
I cannot believe what is happening, I am actually in the sound check!!!!! I am off of me, my heart will fucking explode, the pulse rate is that of a racing horse, I am shaking, I am sweating. I sit down and look at them. Mike to the right behind his table, Stian to the left.
I try to look but I cannot really see…
I try to listen but I cannot really hear…
Ok, clam down! For fuck's sake, try to get a clue of whats going on!! Accordion playing… tango?! Oh, I kind of recover my senses… Mike starts singing, strong voice! oh! in Spanish!! with the first hits of his voice, tears start rolling down my cheeks like a waterfall. The accordion goes beautiful with his voice, I laugh a little, I cannot believe it!!! I laugh a lot. I cry some more. They finish the song, they comment what to do, they laugh, they talk. I cannot understand all they are saying, just some words, maybe a whole phrase. It is disturbingly too fucking beautiful to hear Mike's voice without the mic. His hair is perfectly glued to his head. He is wearing a blue shirt.

I have been like half an hour when the men on stage finish rehearsing. They talk and wrap things up.
GOD how lucky am I????

It is not that I have much education in art, nor that I feel I have the "authority" to critize it, but I DO LOVE(!) all of The Melvins' covers and posters.

Aren't they beautiful, crazy, fun and inviting?
Here I put together some of the The Melvins' album covers that were designed by Mackie Osborne (Buzz Osborne's wife).

She contributed many albums on packaging artwork, layout design and art direction for many other bands (Fantomas, Mr Bungle, The Vandals, Tool, Bad Religion, etc)

PS. Never judge an album by its cover... or?

A partir de tener las BENDITAS ENTRADAS, en casa se estuvo hablando bastante de semejante dúo. Nunca llegamos a ninguna conclusión, y la mayoría de las veces nos paramos en medio de las discusiones, dejando pronósticos de lado para darle tiempo al tiempo.... porque en lo único que no discurrimos es en que la locura que generarán estos señores el martes... solo ellos la saben!
